Find the slope of a line which passes through (-8, -2) and (1,-11)

Solution

x₁ = -8,  y₁ =-2,  x₂ = 1,  y₂ = -11

m =  y2 –y1

      x2 – x1

m =   -11 –(-2)

        1 –(-8)

m =   -11 + 2

         1 + 8

m =    - 9

           9

Hence the slope is -1
