If log 2= 0.3010; find the value of log 1,600,000 without using tables.

solution

log200,000=log(16 x 100,000)

=log16 + log100,000

=log2⁴ + log10⁵

=4log2 + 5log10

=4(0.3010) + (5 x 1)

= 1.2040+  5

=6.2040

Hence log 1,600,000 =6.2040
