FACTORIZING 6

Factorize 3x2 - 20x + 12.

Solution

= 3x2 - 20x + 12.   .
We want to get two values m and n such that
m x n=3x2 x 12=36x2  and
m+n=-20x.
We split the middle term (-20x) to be (-2x - 18x); such that
(-2x) x (-18x)=36x2 and (-2x) + (-18x)=(-20x).

= 3x2 - 2x - 18x + 12.

= (3x2 – 2x) – (18x + 12)

= x(3x – 2) – 6(3x - 2)

= (x - 6) (3x - 2)

Hence 3x2 - 20x + 12= (x - 6) (3x - 2) answer.

TRY THIS…..

4x2 - 11x + 6.
