It intends to involve the learners by making them follow up the examples before they can do questions on their own at the TRY THIS.... section. Factorize 10x² - x - 2

Solution

= 10x² - x - 2. We split the middle term (-x) to be (-5x + 4x).

= 10x² -5x + 4x - 2.

= (10x² - 5x) + (4x - 2) grouping the factors

= 5x(2x – 1) - 2(2x - 1)

= (5x - 2) (2x - 1)

Hence 10x² - x – 2 = (5x - 2) (2x - 1) answer.
