It intends to involve the learners by making them follow up the examples before they can do questions on their own at the TRY THIS.... section. Find the sum of the 1st 30 terms of the following arithmetic progression: 4+6+8+…………………

Solution

d=2, A₁ = 4,n=30

S_n = n[2A₁ + (n-1)d]

S₃₀ = 30[2(4) + (30-1)d]

S₃₀ = 15[8 + 15d]

S₃₀ = 15[8 + 13(2)] since d=2

S₃₀ = 15[8 + 26]

S₃₀ = 15 x 34

S₃₀ = 510

Therefore the sum of 1st 16 terms is 510.
