FACTORIZING 3


Factorize 2x2 + 3x - 14

Solution

= 2x2 + 3x - 14.  We split the middle term (+3x) to be (-4x + 7x).

= 2x2 - 4x + 7x – 14                (-3x) = -8x + 5x.

= (2x2 -4x) + (7x - 14)    [ grouping ]

= 2x(x - 2) + 7(x - 2)   [factoring out]

= (2x + 7) (x - 2)

Hence 2x2 + 3x – 14 = (2x + 7) (x - 2) answer.
