TRANSPOSITION OF FORMULAE B3

If M = t(b + a)    make a the subject of the formula.
             (b – a)
Solution

M = t(b + a)
         (b – a)

(b – a) x M = t(b + a) x (b – a)   multiply by(b-a) on both sides.
                       (b – a)

(b – a) x M = t(b + a) open the brackets on both sides.

Mb – Ma = tb + ta

Mb – tb = Ma + ta   (collect the terms containing a together)

Mb – tb = a(M + t)

Mb – tb = a(M + t) 1               Divide by (M + t) on both sides.
(M + t)        (M + t) 1

Mb – tb = a
(M + t)

Hence  a =   Mb – tb
                     (M + t)
