If x-5⁰ and 4x + 45⁰ are complementary angles, find the value of x.

solution

Complementary angles add up to 90⁰.

so,  x-5⁰ + 4x + 45⁰ = 90⁰.

so,  x + 4x + 45⁰ - 5⁰ = 90⁰.

so,  5x + 40⁰ = 90⁰.

so,  5x = 90⁰ -  40⁰

so,  5x = 50⁰

so,  5x = 50¹⁰

       5       5

Hence x = 10
