Factorize 2x² + 6x - 8

Solution

= 2x² + 6x - 8.  We split the middle term (+6x) to be (-2x + 8x).

= 2x² - 2x + 8x – 8                (-3x) = -14x + 5x.

= (2x² -2x) + (8x - 8)

= 2x(x - 1) + 8(x - 1)

= (2x + 8) (x -1)

Hence 2x² + 6x – 8 = (2x + 8) (x - 1) answer.
