ARITHMETIC PROGRESSION 2

The 1st term of an A.P. is 80 and the common difference is 27. Find the 10th term.

Solution

A₁= 80, d = 27

A_n = A₁ + (n-1)d

A₁₀ = A₁ + (10-1)d

A₁₀ = A₁ + 9d

A₁₀ = 80 + (9x27) [ after substituting A₁= 80, d = 27 as given above]

∴ A₁₀ = 80 + 243

A₁₀ = 323

Hence the 10th term is 323.

The 1st term of an A.P. is 44 and the common difference is 36. Find the 8th term.
