If log 2= 0.3010; find the value of log 2500 without using tables.

solution

log2500=log(10,000÷ 4)

=log10,000 - log4

=log10⁴ – log2²

=4log10 – 2log2

=(4x1) – 2(0.3010)

=4– 2(0.3010)

=4 – 0.6020

=3.398

Hence log25 = 3.398
