If x-5⁰ and 4x + 55⁰ are complementary angles, find the value of x.

solution

Complementary angles add up to 90⁰.

so,  x-5⁰ + 4x + 55⁰ = 90⁰.

so,  x + 4x + 55⁰ - 5⁰ = 90⁰.

so,  5x + 50⁰ = 90⁰. 

so,  5x = 90⁰ -  50⁰

so,  5x = 40⁰

so,  5x = 40⁸

       5       5

Hence x = 8
