PROBABILITY C6

A certain man takes 2 cards from a standard deck of 52 cards.
What will be the probability of getting a pair of black cards?

Solution

(this is a problem with replacement)

n(E) = 26, n(S) = 52

P(E) = n(E)
           n(S)

1st pick = 26/52
2nd pick = 26/52 as well.

P(black card) =  26      x    26
                          52          52

P(black card) =    676    =      1
                          2704           4

Therefore Probability of drawing 2 black cards is 1/4
