If log 2= 0.3010; find the value of log 12500 without using tables.

Solution

=log12500

=log(100,000 ÷8)

=log100,000 –log8

= log10⁵ - log2³

= 5log10 - 3log2

=(5 x 1) - (3 x 0.3010)

= 5  -  0.9030

=4.097

Hence log 1250 =4.097
