If x-22⁰ and 4x + 57⁰ are complementary angles, find the value of x.

Solution

Complementary angles add up to 90⁰.

so,  x-22⁰ + 4x + 57⁰ = 90⁰.

so,  x + 4x + 57⁰ - 22⁰ = 90⁰.

so,  5x + 35⁰ = 90⁰.

so,  5x = 90⁰ -  35⁰

so,  5x = 55⁰

so,  5x = 55¹¹

      5       5

Hence x = 11⁰
