FUNCTIONS 6

Find remainder when P(x) = x5 + 3x3 – x +6  is divided by Q(x)=x+2;

Solution

Let x+2 = 0

x=0-2

x = -2

Now we substitute x=-2 in P(x).

P(x) = x5 + 3x3 – x +6
P(-2) = (-2)5 + (-2)3 – (-2) +6
P(-2) = -32 + (-8) – (-2) +6
P(-2) = -32 + (-8) + 2 + 6
P(-2) = -40 + 8
P(-2) = -32

So remainder is -32

TRY THIS……………

Find remainder when P(x) = x5 - 2x3 – x + 9  is divided by Q(x)=x-3;
