EXPONENTIAL FUNCTONS A1
A settlement has a
population of 2000 people. Each year 5%of the people leave the settlement. How
many people will remain after 3 years?
solution
f(t) = A ( 1 -5/100)t
= 2000(1 – 0.05)t
= 2000 x (0.95)3
= 2000 x 0.95 x 0.95 x 0.95
= 2000 x 0.857375
= 1714.75 (1715 approximate)
Therefore there will be 1715 people remaining after three
years of decay

QUADRATIC A1
Factorize 2x2 - 7x - 30
Solution
2x2 + 12x – 5x - 30
(2x2 + 12x) - (5x - 30)
2x(x + 6) - 5(x + 6)
(2x - 5) (x + 6)
Hence (2x - 5) (x + 6) answer

FACTORIZATION A1
If 16x2
+ 8x + m is a perfect square, find m.
Solution
a = 16, b =
8, c = m.
b2
= 4ac
(8)2
= 4 x 16 x m
64 = 64m
64 = 64m
64
64
m = 1
Hence m = 1
