The starting point is
Joy. Let the sweets given to Joy be x. See the table below:

Then;
ANA + JOY + FRED = 1000
x-20 + x + 3x-60 = 1000
x + x + 3x - 60 - 20 =

5x - 80 = 1000

The sweets given to
Fred
= 3x – 60
= 3(216) – 60
= 648 – 60
= 588
Hence Fred got 588
