The areas of two circles are in the ratio of 25:4 . Calculate the radius of the smaller circle when the radius of larger circle is 40 cm. 

solution

let R = radius of larger circle
let r = radius of smaller circle
R= 40cm, r = ? Ratio = 25:4.


For larger circle
A1 = R2 …………(i)

For smaller circle
A2 = r2 …………(ii)

A1 = R2
A2    r2

A1 = R2
A2     r2


A1 = (R/r)
A2

(A1/A2) =  (R/r)

(25/4) =  (40/r)

5 = 40                 
2     r

(2 x 40) = (5 x r)     after cross multiply.

80 = 5r

80 = 5r

r = 16

radius of smaller circle is 16cm.

Solution

= Log2128 – Log515625

= Log227 – Log55

= 7Log22 – 6Log55   because Logaan =  nLogaa

= (7 x 1) – (6 x 1)  

= 7 – 6

= 1

Hence Log2128 – Log515625 = 1

A number is chosen at random from 21 – 32 inclusive. Find the probability that it is a prime or a multiple of 3.

THIS IS A MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE EVENT

Let n(S) represent sample space
P(M) = probability of a multiple of 3
P(R) = probability of prime number

n(S) = {21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32} = 12
n(M) = {21, 24, 27, 30} = 4
n(R) = {23, 29, 31} = 3
P(M) = 4/12
P(R) = 3/12

P(MuR) = P(M) + P(R)

P(MuR) = 4/12 + 3/12

              = 7/12


              = 7/12


P(MuR) = 7/12 answer
