Solution

=  982.7 x 10^-9

       5 x 10^-30

=  982.7  x   10^-9

       5         10^-30

=  196.54 x 10^{-9 –(-30)}

=  196.54 x 10^{-9 + 30}    

=  196.54 x 10²¹      then we change 196.54 into standard form as well

= 1.9654 x 10² x 10²¹   [when we have exponents with same base, we add the powers.]

 

= 1.9654 x 10²³

= 1.97 x 10²³ [correct to 2 d.p.]

Hence   982.7 x 10^-9   = 1.97 x 10²³

                5 x 10^-20
