Factorize 6x² + 13x - 5

Solution

= 6x² + 13x - 5.  We split the middle term (+13x) to be (-2x + 15x).

= 2x² - 2x + 15x – 5                (-3x) = -14x + 5x.

= (2x² -2x) + (15x - 5)

= 2x(x - 1) + 5(x - 1)

= (2x + 5) (x -1)

Hence 6x² + 13x – 5 = (2x + 8) (x - 1) answer.
