4¹⁰ = 32^a-5 

 

(2²)¹⁰ = (2⁵)^a-5 

 

2²⁰ = 2^5(a-5) 

 

2²⁰ = 2^5a-25

 

2²⁰ = 2^5a-25  [Same bases both sides cancels out]

 

20 = 5a – 25

 

20 + 25 = 5a

 

45 = 5a

 

45 = 5a

5      5

 

9 = a

 

Hence a=9
