Find the slope of a line which passes through (-1, -8) and (16,-9)

 

Solution

 

x₁ = -1,  y₁ =-8,  x₂ = 16,  y₂ = -9

 

m = y2 –y1

         x2 – x1

 

m =   -9 –(-8)

         16 –(-1)

 

m =   -9 + 8

         16 + 1

 

m =    - 1

            17

 

Hence the slope is -1/17
