FACTORIZATION 3

Factorize 2x² - 3x - 20

Solution

= 2x² - 3x – 20. We split the middle term (-3x) to be (-8x + 5x).

= 2x² - 8x + 5x – 20 (-3x) = -8x + 5x.

= (2x² -8x) + (5x - 20)

= 2x(x - 4) + 5(x - 4)

= (2x + 5) (x -4)

Hence 2x² - 3x – 20 = (2x + 5) (x - 4) answer.
