The sum of four consecutive numbers is 606. Find the 3rd number.

 

Solution

 

Let the numbers be as shown in the table below

n	n+1	n+2	n+3	606

 

Then, n + (n+1) + (n+2) + (n+3) = 606

 

4n + 1+2+3= 606

 

4n + 6 = 606

 

4n = 606 – 6

 

4n = 600 

 

4n = 600

n = 150

 

3rd number = n +2

 

                   = 150 + 2

 

                   = 152

 

Hence the 3rd number is 152

Solution

 

CASE 1: We find F(-2)

 

 

F(x) = 3x  +  11

 

F(-2) = 3(-2)  +  11

 

F(-2) = -6  +  11

 

F(-2) = 5

 

 

Hence  F(-2) = 5

F(x) = 3x  +  11

 

F(5) = 3(5)  +  11

 

F(5) = 15  +  11

 

F(5) = 26

 

 

Hence  F(5) = 26

b² = 4ac

Hence number to be added is 49

And the expression will be: x²  + 14x +49=0
