FUNCTIONS 2

Find remainder when P(x) = x5 + 3x3 – x +6  is divided by Q(x)=x+3;

Solution

Let x+3 = 0
x=0-3
x = -3

Now we substitute x=-3 in P(x).

P(x) = x5 + 3x3 – x +6

P(-3) = (-3)5 + (-3)3 – (-3) +6

P(-3) = -243 + (-27) – (-3) +6

P(-3) = -243 + (-30) +6

P(-3) = -273 +6

P(-3) = -266

So remainder is -266
