Find the slope of a line which passes through (-1, -8) and (6,-9)

Solution

x₁ = -1,  y₁ =-8,  x₂ = 6,  y₂ = -9

m = y2 –y1

       x2 – x1

m =   -9 –(-8)

         6 –(-1)

m =   -9 + 8

         6 + 1

m =    - 1

            7

Hence the slope is -1/7
