If log 2= 0.3010; find the value of log 6,400,000 without using tables.

solution

log200,000=log(64 x 100,000)

=log64 + log100,000

=log2⁶ + log10⁵

=6log2 + 5log10

=6(0.3010) + (5 x 1)

= 1.8060 + 5

=5.8060

Hence log 6,400,000 =5.8060
