Find the slope of a line which passes through (-9, -4) and (8,-11)

Solution

x₁ = -9,  y₁ =-4,  x₂ = 8,  y₂ = -11

m = y2 –y1

       x2 – x1

m =   -11 –(-4)

          8 –(-9)

m =   -11 + 4

          8 + 9

m =    - 7

          17

Hence the slope is -7/17
