If log 2= 0.3010; find the value of log 50,000,000 without using tables.

solution

log 50,000,000 = log(100,000,000÷ 2)

=log100,000,000- log2

=log10⁸ – log2

=8log10 –log2

=(8x1) – (0.3010)

=8– (0.3010)

= 7.699

Hence log5,000,000 = 7.699
