ARITHMETIC PROGRESSION 1

Find the general term of an A. P. which has the 1st term of -22 and common difference of 17.

Solution

A1 = -22, d= 17, n = n.

An = A1 + (n-1)d

     = -22 + (n-1)17

     = -22 +  17n-17

     = 17n -17-22

     = 17n- 39       [ since -17-22= -39 ]

  An = 17n- 39

Hence the general term is 17n- 39.
