Find the slope of a line which passes through (4, 13) and (14, 8).

Solution

x₁ = 4,  y₁ =13,  x₂ = 14,  y₂ = 8

m = y2 –y1

       x2 – x1

m =   8 –13

         14 –4

m =   -5

         10

m =   -1                           (After simplification)

          2

  

Hence the slope is -1/2
