Find the slope of a line which passes through (3, -2) and (8,-9).

Solution

x₁ = 3,  y₁ =-2,  x₂ = 8,  y₂ = -9

m = y2 –y1

      x2 – x1

m =   -9 –(-2)

          8 –3

m =   -9 + 2

            5

m =    - 7

            5

Hence the slope is -7/5
