TRANSPOSITION OF FORMULAE B6

If p =  a(m + n)    make m the subject of the formula.
             (m – n)
Solution

p =  a(m + n)
         (m – n)

(m – n) x p = a(m + n) x (m – n)   multiply by(m - n) on both sides.
                        (m – n)

(m – n) x p = a(m + n)    open the brackets on both sides.

mp – np = am + an

mp – am = np + an (collect the terms containing m together)

m(p – a) = np + an

m(p – a) = np + an       Divide by (p - a) on both sides.
   (p – a)      (p – a)

m= np + an
       (p – a)

Hence  m= np + an
                    (p – a)
