RATIOS AND RATES

In a mixed school the number of boys is 99. If there are 165 students, find the ratio of boys to girls.

Solution

Number of girls = Total – number of boys

                        = 165 – 99

   

                        = 66

Ratio of boys to girls = 99:66

Find the HCF of 99 and 66.

Then we divide both numbers in our ratio by the HCF = 33.

Ratio of boys to girls = 99  :  66

                                  33      33

                               = 3:2

 

Hence the required ratio is 3:2
